Technology Effectiveness - Reflect on the technology components you've selected. Why are they effective tools for addressing the learning need you've identified?

We used glogster which made the page more eye catching and kid friendly, We used Photostory which was effective because students can add their own voice and ending. The blog is great so that students can see their work "published" and get positive feedback from their peers. The wiki was great because it kept everything in one place and the survey is good because we can get feedback from the students!

Concepts and ideas of Library 2.0 and participatory library service - based on your readings, class discussions, and in class assignments, discuss the social use of information, and the creation of online collaboration and communities via social networking tools and what this shift means for school libraries in the 21st Century.
I think it is very important to get students involved in the use of social networking tools in the school library and the blog is a good way to get them started with this.

Technology Issues - Identify at least one potential problem or concern associated with the technology you've selected.
To comment on the blog, the students will have to do it from one computer that I have already logged into, as each student would not have the means to log into blogger and leave a comment...to know who is leaving the comment I would have them write their name in the subject line.


Collaboration Issues - How did collaboration contribute to (or hinder) the project's success?
Collaboration led to this project's success, we constantly bounced ideas off of each other and came up with ways to make it better. We collaborated in person, at the library, through the telephone, email and facebook.

July 24th

Me and Liana have been working dilagently on our final project. I must say, it sounded a lot easier when we were planning it out then how it is actually turning out. I guess that is technology for you, we have to constantly keep changing things to make them better!

VoiceThread, PhotoStories and YouTube OH My!

Today has been an eventful day so far. We experiment with VoiceThread which is a very cool site where you can make voice comments on pictures, slideshows and other work. Next we got to go out around campus to take photos for our digital photo story! This was so much fun that I decided to upload my first ever YouTube video so I can share my digital photo story with everyone!(Since I know you are all on the edge of your seat waiting to see it)

Big Huge Labs!

I am very excited about Bighugelabs.com, I can't wait to use this more! In my future LMC it can be used for many different projects! I quickly tried out the trading card feature and made one about my cat Wonton! Students can use this when researching facts about animals. They can use the internet to locate and import a photo of an animal and then record the actual facts that they found on the bottom of the card. It can then be printed out and looks amazing!

Another great idea to use this in your LMC is have students create cards for characters of a book they are reading.



THe magazine feature is cool to, you can highlight exciting things that your students are doing and then print and display on a bulletin board, the students would get a kick out of seeing themselves on a magazine.

Wordle

For my Wordle I chose to use the course description for this course. Wordle is very easy to use and could be used in my future LMC when teaching students about famous speeches.

This class is flying by! Between today and yesterday we have been emerged into the world of Web 2.0. Some of the things we learned about were blogs, social networks, rss feeds, delicious, and book organizing sites such as LibraryThing. All of these things can be feasibly used in my future library media center and would be so exciting for both myself and the students. I really like the idea of using LibraryThing to advertise new books to students, teachers and parents...what great PR! Delicious is also a very handy tool that I will definately use in my professional career. All in all, the class is running smoothly and I can't wait to try all of these new tools and ideas in my LMC!

After watching the three clips on blogging, I have many ideas on how I will use a blog in my future Library Media Center. Blogs can be used for students to write book reviews and other students can find out what books their peers are reading and get ideas. Blogs can also be used to review key points of lesson or a place where students can write what the best thing they learned for the week was, other students can comment or add to it and it would serve as a review. I think the most exciting way to use a blog that I will definately use in my future library media center is to share ideas and stories with other classes around the world....it is definately a new spin on penpals!
